Komboloi
What its thought to mean: Derived from the Greek word "Kombos", meaning knot, specifically a large number of knots, and "loi", meaning a group that sticks together. What it actually means: Derived from the ancient Greek word "Kombos", meaning sound, i.e. the sound the beads make when they click with each other, and the ending "oi" which means in series or in repetition. Therefore Komboloi is the clicking sound of the beads placed in series on a string. |
